Obituary for Freddie Lee Bruno
Funeral services honoring the life of Freddie Lee Bruno will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Christian Living Fellowship, at 12:00 PM with Reverend Bobby Ganaway officiating. Interment will be on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be LA (Fella) Bruno, Jr., Blandon Harris, Trammell Bruno, Leeroy Lewis II, Elijah Lewis, and Christopher Day.
The visitation will be held on Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM until time of service.
MSG Freddie Bruno (Ret) was born on February 3, 1947, in Port Barre, Louisiana to Mother Ruby Bruno and Father Freddie Bruno. He entered his new home of eternal rest on August 16, 2024 at the age of 77.
Lee was the 2nd child of 14 children. Family, responsibility and work ethics were instilled (but we all know what that means) in him at a young age. He graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in Washington, Louisiana, class of 1966. He furthered his education at Southern A&M University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for 1 ½ years before being drafted.
He began his Army career on January 22, 1968. In February of 1969, while stationed in Seoul, South Korea, he was introduced to a wonderful woman by a friend and was instantly smitten. Her name was Yi In Suk. They were married on May 18, 1970.
On February 12, 1974, a new chapter in their life began as they welcomed their gorgeous baby girl they named Ursula Marie Bruno, although she later named herself Ursula Donnie and Marie Bruno.
Lee spent his 25 years of service traveling to many different places. Most of his time was spent in South Korea. He did that not only because he loved the country, but also wanted his wife to spend time with her family and his daughter to learn about her culture and understand her lineage. While in the Army he was a mentor, a father figure and a big brother to all of his soldiers. He provided tools needed not only for them to become a better solider but also a better person.
He retired from his military career with honor and pride in Leesville, Louisiana on January 31, 1993. Because of the work ethic he learned as a child, it became part of his character, so he started working for the civil service whom he retired from as well.
He fully enjoyed being retired. This gave him an opportunity to spend more time with his family and especially his granddaughter Sunaé. She was the pep in his step and the twinkle in his left eye (but that may have been a cataract).
It also gave him time to be with his church family. He joined Christian Living Fellowship on April 19, 2004. The highlight of his week was Sunday service and bible study. This gave him an opportunity to fellowship with his brothers and sisters in Christ. He looked forward to the conferences and retreats, but he truly adored his missionary trip in the Dominican Republic.
Lee loved his family. He looked forward to being surrounded by them and talking about the “good ol days” and then laughing about it. He would also cook for his family and every and anyone else. Cooking was part of his soul and he cooked for anyone who wanted to eat, and everyone always wanted to eat.
He took pride in everything he did. Other than his granddaughter, his yard was his pride and joy. The fruits and vegetables from his garden were always shared with any and everyone. He definitely lived life to the fullest.
Lee leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Ursula Bruno Day (Christopher), granddaughters, Sunaé and Tajaneé Day, grandson, Dane Day of Houston TX, his big little sister, Barbara Garabaldi (Daniel) of Antioch, CA, sisters, Otha Smith, Gloria Lewis (Leeroy), Trudy Abercrombie and Daisy Bruno of Houston, TX, brother Clemon Bruno (Sheila) of New Port News, Virginia, brother, Leo Bruno (Dimito) of Lawton, OK, and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. He also leaves behind his special friend, Ms Constance Chrishon who he loved and cared for deeply.
He is now reunited in heaven with his wife of 47 years, In Suk Bruno, father, Freddie Bruno, mother, Ruby Bruno, sisters, Lusanders, Shirley and Gracey Bruno, sister, Sheila Lowe, brothers Whalen and LA Bruno. He will also join his beloved grandson, Zereth Day.
Repass will be held immediately following the service at Christian Living Fellowship.
The family and I would like to express our appreciation to each of you for your kindness shown in prayer, thoughts and deeds. We would personally like to thank Ms. Constance Chrishon for taking good care of “Mr. Lee” and being a good friend. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs.Degrey and Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, not only were you part of his neighborhood family, you were there for him when he needed it.
We are thankful for Pastor Bobby Ganaway and his church family for assisting him with his treatment and just holding his hand.
