Saundra was a beloved mother, grandmother, and wife during her incredible 83 years of life. She ran into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Saundra was born on March 5, 1940 in Bleakwood, TX to Allen and Pauline Hooks. She was the only girl with seven brothers. She captured the eye of her sweetheart, Earl, while drag racing around the courthouse in Newton, TX. Earl was home after completing his service in the United States Army when he watched the fastest, loudest and most fierce race he had ever witnessed. Much to his surprise a beautiful blonde stepped out of the winning car. Earl knew in that moment, that was the girl he was going to marry.

Saundra and Earl were married in 1957. Together they had five children. Saundra lovingly served as a Pastor’s Wife for many years. She stood by Earl’s side as he battled brain cancer and was called home in 1999. Her identity was formed in and through her relationship with Christ, and she lived her calling to be a faithful minister of God's grace both in and out of the church. She fulfilled her calling in the ministry for over fifty years as a Pastor’s wife then as a Pastor. She broke barriers in women’s ministry for more than thirty years.

Saundra’s green thumb brought beauty to the world through her gardening, with roses, tulips, and ferns as her specialty. She had an incredible capacity to inspire people. She was honest but loving, nurturing and compassionate. The gifts she gave everyone around her were indescribable. Saundra was big hearted and vibrant, and radiated light. She accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile. She had immense passion for her family, but her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-grandchildren were exceptionally special to her.

Her video camera was a permanent part of her arm at all times as she wanted to capture every family moment possible. The videos she captured will be cherished for years to come. She was the “glue” for her family always working to keep everyone connected. Her happiest moments were when her family was all together. She was known for hosting Sunday dinners after church. Anyone that sat at her table would tell you that she was a great cook, and she always had plenty. She was best known for her cat-head biscuits and her delicious cornbread.

Saundra claimed she would never marry again but that all changed when she was introduced to a sweet and gentle soul. Saundra married Larry Wallace in May of 2008. Larry was a wonderful caretaker and took pride in spoiling and loving her in the time that they shared together.

Above all accolades, accomplishments and titles nothing compared to the relationship she had with Jesus Christ. She was known for having a servant’s heart and being a fierce prayer warrior. Her family joked that everyone in Heaven would get quiet when she prayed because she was so fervent in her prayer life. She kept the Lord busy. Her primary mission was to win soul’s to Christ and to make Heaven crowded.

Saundra is proceeded in death by her parents, Allen and Pauline Hooks, brothers, Joe Allen Hooks, Joe Edward Hooks, Claude Hooks, N.D. Hooks and Bill Hooks, first husband, Earl Hillman and grandson, Cole Thompson.

Those left to cherish her memories is her husband Larry Wallace of 17 years,

son, Dean Hillman (Phyllis);

stepson, Bryan Wallace;

stepdaughter, Tami Beasley (Richard);

brothers, Timmy Hooks and Lynn Hooks;

grandchildren, Wendy Faris, Kevin Hillman, Sonya Davis, Joshua Dowden, Shae Goins, Courtney McKee, Caleb LaCaze, Ashley Norris, Candance Thompson and Cole Thompson;
