Obituary for Dewitt Wagner
A graveside service for Dewitt Wagner will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 3348 University Parkway Leesville, LA, with Brother Jerry Penfield and Brother Darin Worthington officiating under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at Jeane’s Funeral Service, 100 E. Union St. Leesville, LA, on Monday from 10:00-10:30 a.m.
Dewitt was born August 22, 1935, in Beedeville, Arkansas and passed away July 28, 2022, in Leesville, Louisiana at the age of 86. He was a native of Arkansas and graduated from Newport High School in Newport, Arkansas. For 20 years he served in the U.S. Army. During that time, Dewitt was deployed to Vietnam, Germany, and Korea and then settled in Fort Polk, LA as a MSG. After retirement from the military, he worked for DataPlex as a data specialist and for The Vernon Bank as a computer operator and was active in his community. Dewitt served as a band parent for the Leesville High School Band and as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Leesville. He loved to play golf and fellowship with his golfing buddies and was instrumental in leading several of his golfing buddies to the Lord. Children had a special place in his heart, so he helped teach the Younger Preschool Sunday School at First Baptist Church for a lot of years. He loved his family and was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan.
Dewitt was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Abraham Wagner and Mary Callie Cooper Wagner; brother, Martel “Buck” Wagner; and two sisters, Bernice Davis and Virginia “Jinky” Doyle.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Gail Wagner of Leesville, LA; daughters, Deedie Kay Wagner Vigil and husband Ed Vigil of San Rafael, California and Krystal Dee Wagner of Dalles, Oregon.
