Obituary for Jimmy Don Ross
A funeral service for Jimmy Don Ross will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Hornbeck First Baptist Church with Rodney Johnson and Reverends Jack Bell and Joey Williams officiating under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. There will be no graveside service.
Jimmy was born November 29, 1945 in Hornbeck, LA. He passed away peacefully on March 8, 2021 in his home at the age of 75. He served in the United States Air Force and worked in civil service as a supply systems analyst at Fort Polk for 30 plus years. Jimmy was very involved in the Hornbeck Community and was very well known and loved. He was always there to help anyone who needed it. He had a friendly personality, and if you knew him well, you knew he never met a stranger. He found everyday joy in just enjoying the company of others. He loved his church, Hornbeck First Baptist, and served faithfully there for numerous years.
Most of all, Jimmy loved and adored his family. He showed his love in many different ways. One of his favorite things was working in his shop building anything his “girls” needed or wanted, from shoe racks to spice racks and art easels. Papa could do anything, and his granddaughters knew it. When anything needed repairing, his granddaughters, Madilyn and Katelyn, always said, “Don’t worry Papa can fix it! He can fix anything.” He will be deeply missed, especially by his immediate family by whom he had many names- sweetheart, dad, daddy, daddy-o and papa. He left this world peacefully and for that his family is forever grateful, but he left sooner than was expected and will be missed beyond measure. He was a BIG personality who had an even bigger heart for others and a great love for his family.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Flim Ross and Muriel Eva Gentry Ross Ford. He was the youngest of five sons and was preceded in death by his brothers, Lee Allen Ross, Leonard Franklin Ross, Leo Edwin Ross, and Lanny Wayne Ross.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marie Cooley Ross, daughters Tammie Thibodeaux and husband Russell of Kingwood, TX and Kimberly Ross of Fort Worth, TX, grandchildren, Madilyn and Katelyn Thibodeaux, and a host of extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be John Alford, Allen Brown, Jody Browning, Josh Corley, Jimmy Hughes, John Lewing and honorary pallbearer, Wayne Jones.
His family would also like to say thank for the overwhelming outpouring of love shown to them during this difficult time. So many friends and family have been there in so many ways and the family will be forever grateful.
