Martha Raye Woodle Zuroske was born on February 29, 1940 in Leesville, LA to Hoyt Woodle, Sr., and Ruth Robertson Woodle. She passed away on June 20, 2020, in Lake Charles, LA at the age of 80. She was a 1958 graduate of Leesville High School where she played basketball.
Martha was working as a phone operator at Fort Polk when she met and fell in love with the love of her life. She later married Johnny Zuroske and quickly adjusted to being a military spouse. They were married for 55 years before he passed away in 2019. She and Johnny shared a love of good food and travel. You never saw one of them without seeing the other. Throughout their 55 year love affair Martha supported her husband in their many business ventures from car lots to pie shops.
She was an avid sports fan and loved to watch all LSU sports and the Dallas Cowboys. She was even known to skip a family Thanksgiving or two to travel with Johnny to Dallas to watch her Cowboys play.
Martha loved to travel and was always ready to go. She loved to go shopping. She particularly loved shoes. You could always be certain that if there was a trip planned, it would also include a trip to the mall.
She loved to sit out on the porch and visit with her neighbors, Bobby and Sharon Skidmore. She also loved to meet up with her brother and sister to enjoy a good meal and good conversation.
Martha never left the house without every hair in place, nails painted, and a stylish outfit with matching purse and shoes. But as beautiful as she always looked on the outside, she was equally beautiful on the inside. She was a thoughtful and kind mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Zuroske, Sr., son, John Zuroske, Jr, brother in law, Steve Weeks, and nephew, Jay Weeks.
She is survived by her daughter, Tamara Rojas of Leesville, brother, Hoyt Woodle, Jr. and wife Charla of Sealy, TX, sister, Joyce Weeks of Simpson, grandson, Tyler Rojas of Leesville, nephews, Kyle Woodle and wife Lindsey of Katy, TX, and Aaron Woodle of Houston, TX, nieces, Janet Edwards and husband Delton, of LaCamp, and Shelia Stephens and husband Jammy of Simpson
