Whitney was so full of life she needed two nicknames. Her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews lovingly called her NeeNee, but her father had his own special name for her, “Pearl.” When she was a little girl, she loved to dance around the house in big floppy hats so he called her “poor, poor, pitiful Pearl” because of Minnie Pearl off of the TV show, HeeHaw.
Whitney was the kind of woman who felt every emotion intensely--she would cry easily and laugh loudly at anything she thought was funny. She loved to joke around and could be counted on to make a joke at the most inappropriate times to lighten the mood. She loved to sing and dance, but her greatest love was her three children--Emerald, Elyiea, and Gabriel.
A giving soul, Whitney could be counted on to help anyone in need. She loved her family dearly, and she was a fierce protector of each one.
Whitney was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Donald Guillory, her paternal grandparents, Cecile Martinez and Mary Veuleman, an uncle Dennis Martinez, and two nephews, Zachary Martinez and Evan Chance. She is survived by her husband, Jacob Durant, three children, Emerald (age11), Elyiea (age 8), and Gabriel (age 5); her siblings, Aimee Stelly and husband Chad of Crowley, LA, Richard “Buddie” Martinez and his wife Karina of Sierra Vista, AZ, Christopher Martinez and wife Jordan of Carencro, LA, Jeri Bigelow of Alexandria,LA , and two step-brothers, Timothy Miguez and wife Kennedy, and Matthew Miguez, all of Lafayette, LA, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are step-brothers, Timothy Miguez and Matthew Miguez, and cousins Dennis D. Martinez, D.J. Martinez, Daniel Martinez, and Christopher Martinez. Honorary pallbearer, Tyler Winkle
