Vivian Jeanette Gill
At age 93, Vivian Jeanette Gill gained her angel wings on December 7, 2020, following a battle with pneumonia and covid. She was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend to many.
She was born to Leon and Euna Dowden on April 27, 1927 in Slagle, LA and remained a lifelong resident of Slagle where she was well known and loved throughout the community. In 1947 she married her sweetheart, LeeRoy Gill, and they shared a life with each other for over 58 years prior to his death in 2005. Together, they had three children: Dannetta, Donnie, and Danny.
The simplest pleasures in life brought much joy to her, and to say she was an active lady would be an understatement. Always full of energy, she ran circles around those in her midst. She enjoyed many different activities throughout her life to include painting, crafting, quilting, cooking, and gardening as well as being an accomplished seamstress. She was always ready for a fishing trip and would be the first one in the boat. Probably, her all time favorite activity involved watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports and other activities. She was very proud of her family and made sure they all knew how much she cherished them. She was defined by generosity and caring toward others. Health circumstances required her to reside in a nursing home the last several years of her life but even then, she sought out and found ways to help the other residents. It was her spiritual gift and made her a beautiful person!
She is survived by her children, Dannetta Mahler (John) and Donnie Gill (Melissa) and grandchildren, Aaron Asbury, Megan Gill Willis, and Mystie Hayes. Additionally, she has 7 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply.
A graveside service at Castor Baptist Church Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 3:00 pm will be held to celebrate her homegoing.
