Obituary for Verna Mae Ford
Funeral services for Verna Mae Ford will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Hornbeck. The burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hornbeck under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service with Pastor Mark Christian officiating. Pallbearers will be Sawyer Carroll, Samuel Carroll, Cannon Lewing, Jerrison Lewing, James Anderson, John Carroll, Rodney Smith, and Colton Smith. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, June 8th from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Verna was born November 22, 1937, in Florien, Louisiana and passed away June 2, 2023, at her home in Hornbeck, Louisiana at the age of 85. She was a member of First United Pentecostal Church of Leesville and was a faithful woman of God. Verna enjoyed being outside hunting when she was younger and sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds. She had a loving, caring nature and used this when she worked as a nurse and to care for her family. They meant the world to her, and she liked to watch them participate in rodeos. Her fur babies, Punkin and Daisy Mae, also had a special place in her heart.
Verna was preceded in death by her husband, T.H. Ford; sons, Tommy & Timothy Horton; daughter, Stephanie Lewing; grandson, Shawn Carroll; great-grandson, Remington Carroll; parents, Canaan Sanders & Elma Jett Sanders; brothers, Benny Sanders, Lanice Sanders, & Larry Sanders; sister, Donnis Chance; and stepsons, David & Harold Ford.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, John Horton of Vidor, TX;
daughter, Melissa Horton (James Anderson) of Hornbeck, LA;
grandchildren, Mindy Erwin, Sawyer Carroll (Shanna), Canaan Lewing (Samantha), Angela Smith (Rodney), Amy Hodges (Craig), Travis Lewing, Gabriel Horton, Thomas “Chip” Lewing (Emily), and James Anderson II;
great-grandchildren, Korbyn, Kymlee Karsyn, Rylea, Ryder, Ryaden, Joslyn, Samuel, Kayden, Courtney, Jerrison, Alex Hodges, Elijah, Andrew, Alex Lewing, Tori, Thomas, Braxton, Braylee, Bristol, Colton, and Ragan (Jared);
great-great-granddaughter, Gracelynn;
stepsons, Floyd Ford of Hornbeck, LA and Lloyd Ford (Donna) of Negreet, LA;
sister-in-law, Wanda Sanders of Vidor, TX;
and extended family members.
