Obituary for Verda Farris Koury
Funeral mass for Verda Farris Koury will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church at 2:00 PM with Father Kenneth Michiels officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2018, from 5:00-9:00 PM with the Rosary at 6:30 at St. Michael Catholic Church.
Ms. Verda Farris Koury was born on January 3, 1918 in Leesville, LA to Jim and Callie Gordon Farris. She passed away on September 21, 2018, at the age of 100 years, 8 months and 18 days at her residence in Leesville, LA. She attended Orange High School in Anacoco, LA. She later married the love of her life Henry Anthony Koury and they shared 54 years together. They worked alongside each other to build a successful business career for their family. She enjoyed working with people and being involved in numerous service projects. Ms. Verda was a charter member of the Ladies of the Altar Society and also a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She was the oldest living member of St. Michael Catholic Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Edna McClendon.
She is survived by her son Gene Koury and wife Martha of Leesville, LA
Daughter – Liz Koury Descant and husband Mark of Leesville, LA
Grandchildren – Mark Koury and wife Rhonda of Leesville, LA, Matt Koury and wife Martha of Leesville, LA, Dr. Cory Cordova and wife Brandee of Lafayette, and Lea Cordova Poncho and husband Derek, of Lake Charles, LA
Great Grandchildren – Reagan Koury Merriman and husband Lane Michael, Lane Koury, Mackie Koury, Matthew Koury, Halle Poncho, Tate Poncho. Ana Poncho, Abram Poncho, Olivia Cordova, and Genevieve Cordova
