Obituary for Tully Thornton
Tully Thornton lost his year-long battle with ALS on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the age of 51. Born the first of four children to Kenneth and Elena Thornton on June 25, 1964 in Nederland, TX, Tully was a beloved member of the Hornbeck community he called home. Tully gained respect working alongside his father for many years as a local roofer. In later years he worked as a first grade teacher and was dearly loved by his students. Tully was an abundantly talented and creative man. From early in life he was a self taught guitarist, singer/songwriter, NSU drummer, multi-instrumentalist and a folk artist. He was also a published author, and illustrator of a children's book, Pretty Pete the Parrot. Tully spent many years mastering the arts. This remarkable man is survived by his three children: Cayla Thornton and boyfriend, John McMillan of Bossier City, Louisiana, Aaron Thornton and Avery Thornton of Hornbeck, Louisiana. The mother of his children, Maurna Thornton of Bossier City, Louisiana .One brother, Todd Thornton of Hornbeck, Louisiana, two sisters: Tami Griffin and husband Dwayne of Hornbeck, Louisiana, Tricia Cartinez and husband Joey of Zwolle, Louisiana. Three nephews: Kirkland, Tyler and Cheyton. Two nieces: Elena and Brisa. And a host of extended family and close friends. A memorial of his life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Labby Funeral Home in Leesville, Louisiana. Visitation from 8:00 am until service time. Cremation was under the direction of Jeane's Funeral Service of Leesville. If you wish, donations may be made to the local ALS foundation in Tully's honor.
