Obituary for Thomas Oscar Smith
Funeral services for Thomas Oscar Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Slagle Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Cooley officiating. Burial will follow in Castor Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at Slagle Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith was born on January 26, 1942, and passed away on June 25, 2018, at the age of 76. He was a native of Vernon Parish and a 1960 graduate of Leesville High School. Mr. Smith joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam Conflict. After serving for 22 years, he retired from the Navy and moved back home where he went to work at Fort Polk at the Fire Control Shop until his retirement in 2007. Mr. Smith was a member of Slagle Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and wood work. He was known for building the Slagle Dome.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Callie Smith and his brother, Ronald Smith.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Marva Smith and a host of nieces and nephews.
