Obituary for Sonja "Missy" Leigh Squyres
We regretfully announce the passing of Sonja “Missy” Squyres of Hineston on August 30, 2021, at Rapides Regional Hospital. Missy was one of the strongest and kindest women to ever walk this earth, and we were blessed to have her as the boss of the family.
Missy graduated from Hicks High School and later, Northwestern University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She loved her job as a Headstart teacher and taught for 12 years. She married her high school sweetheart, John “Willie” Squyres in 1984 and had one daughter, Heather Squyres Costa. Missy had two grandchildren that she adored and spent all of her money on. Missy was a wonderful and loving mother, sister, and friend who gave her all to her family. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her.
Missy was predeceased by her parents, Coomie and Shirley Smith, three sisters, and three brothers. She is survived by her husband, John “Willie” Squyres; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Corey Costa; two granddaughters, Kylie and Evie Costa; brothers, John Smith (Evelyn), Wilmer Smith (Gail), Eddie Smith (Pam), and Rusty Smith (Audrey); sisters, Judy Dewitt (Charles), Liz Smith (Leon Coody), and Marna Boswell; sisters-in-law, Blanche Smith and Herberta Whitworth; and too many nieces and nephews to list.
Missy requested no services be held, and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
