Russell was born March 27, 1949, in Many, Louisiana and passed away in Many on September 7, 2024, at the age of 75. In 1967, he graduated from Hornbeck High School and then worked for Boise Cascade for 42 years. In his earlier years, Russell was a little shy but as he grew older, he loved to meet people. You could hear his strong, distinct voice over the crowd. Music was one of his greatest interests, and he enjoyed listening to all genres of music on his radio. Even though Russell sometimes stuttered when he spoke, he could always speak clearly when praying aloud or singing. He was a member of Plainview Baptist Church where he joined in singing bass. Russell often thought of others by sending flowers or calling in to the local radio station on their birthday.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, William David Durrett Sr. & Ruby Wilson Durrett and siblings, Juanita Faircloth, William David Durrett Jr., Bettye Broussard, and James William “J.W.” Durrett.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Linda Ulmer and husband Melvin of Magee, MS; brother, Dwight Durrett and wife Teresa of Hornbeck, LA; brother-in-law, Leroy Broussard of Jennings, LA; sister-in-law, Eula Durrett of Hornbeck, LA; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Gideons International in Russell’s memory. Friends and family may leave their condolences at www.jeanesfs.com.
