Obituary for Ruby Geraldine Poe Williamson
Funeral services celebrating the life of Ruby Geraldine Poe Williamson will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the Christian Life Center of the First Baptist Church of Leesville, with Brother Craig Forque officiating. Burial will follow at Castor Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Visitation will be observed at the First Baptist Church Christian Life Center on Monday, November 12th from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Geraldine Poe Williamson, aged 84, passed away at home surrounded by the love of her family on Saturday, November 10th. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 68 years, James F. Williamson, her daughter, Dr. Mary Lynn Williamson, her sisters-in-law, Loretta Poe and Ruby Williamson. She will be missed by her many nephews and nieces, whom she adored, as well as two step granddaughters, Heather and Tamsin Garrison of Florida.
Preceding her in death were her son Terry Williamson, her parents Mike and Coral Poe, and her brothers Douglas and Jerry Poe, all of Leesville.
Geraldine was a true “homemaker” in the very best sense of the word. All were welcomed and appreciated in the home she made for her family. She cherished her immediate and extended family. Birthdays and holidays were always fun because she made them special. She always put the needs of her family, church, and friends before herself, making sure that each of them felt the strength of her love.
In addition to her family, Geraldine loved her church where she served in numerous capacities: Sunday School Director, Vacation Bible School Director, local WMU President, and President of the Vernon WMU Association. However, her favorite job was as 4th and 5th grade Sunday School Teacher for two generations of youngsters.
Geraldine Williamson believed that circumstances and obstacles were not allowed to define, restrict, or stop one from achieving all that they were capable of. Rather, life was to be lived joyously and at full speed ahead: always learning, always hopefully, always faithfully, and always, always lovingly.
