Obituary for Roy Thompson

Funeral services with military honors for Roy Thompson (Sarge) will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery with Reverend Anthony Eaves officiating. Family and friends will gather at Cooper Baptist Church on Friday morning at 8:15 a.m. and leave promptly in procession at 8:30 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Logan Sneed, Joshua Peek, Landon Lawrence, Cody Sneed, Justin Andrus, and Joe Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Damon Johnson, Richard Ross, Joe Pryor, Jerry Maddox, Trey Howell, and Cade DuBois.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 7th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Cooper Baptist Church with a special remembrance presented by friend Shirley Ross from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Roy was born in Elizabeth, LA on August 25, 1946, He graduated from Plainview High School and spent 24 years in the military serving from November 2, 1967 to November 27, 1991. He served in Vietnam April 11, 1968 to December 3, 1969. Roy married his wife, Susan Longlois Thompson, on June 26, 1971. They celebrated 53 years of marriage.

He enjoyed sharing stories about his military career. Roy was a serious LSU fan. He loved to watch games with his son-in-law, Donald Sneed and grandson, Logan Sneed. He looked forward to his weekly breakfast at Toups with his cousin, Damon Johnson. Roy didn’t meet a stranger. He enjoyed people and was the life of any get-together. He will be remembered by all for his mischievous ways and funny personality.

Roy passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, after a long battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). He was preceded in death by his parents, Davide and Olive Thompson; sisters, Lucy Gibson, Elsie Mae Loewe, Johnnie Mae Downey, Bernice LeBlanc, and his twin sister, Joy McBride; father & mother-in-law, Wilford Longlois and Gladys Holland.

Roy is survived by his wife, Susan and daughters, Dawna Lynne Johnson (Joe) of Breaux Bridge, La and Stacy D. Sneed (Don) of Leesville, LA. He had four grandchildren: Kristen Holland, Jessica Thibodeaux (Cody) of Breaux Bridge, LA, Kayla Andrus (Justin), and Logan Sneed of Leesville, LA. He had three great-grandchildren: Faellan Thibodeaux, Levi Sneed, and Avery Kate Andrus. He is also survived by two brothers, Jackie Thompson (Catherine) of Kinder, LA and L.C. Thompson (Doris) of Nettleton, MS; one sister, Judy Martin (Glen) of Loxley, AL; father-in-law, Billy G. Holland of Provencal, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Our family extends our heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Leesville, Companion Care, Jeane’s Funeral Service, Cooper Baptist Church, and VFW 3106 for the love and support during our time of sadness and loss.
