Obituary for Richard "Rick" Lee Cook
Richard Lee Cook was born October 4, 1944 and passed away at the age of 75 on March 8, 2020 at Byrd Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Cook was a proud Army veteran who achieved the rank of Sgt. 1st Class during his 24 years of service (1963-1987). He was stationed in Vietnam during the war and also served tours in Korea and Germany. Rick was a past commander of VFW 3106. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to play Bingo at the casino. Rick had a big heart and always put others before himself.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Lillian Cook.
Left to cherish Rick’s memory are his wife, Kayla Byrd Cook of DeRidder, LA,
sons, Paul Cook of Leesville, LA and Danny Cook,
sisters, Tina Cook Taylor and Frederica Funya,
grandchildren, Kayli Cook, Raycheal Cook, Alexus Cook, Logan Williams, Addy Williams, and Jayden Cook.
Rick’s family expresses a special thank you to Dr. Upadhyay and his staff, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Aycock, the 2nd floor nursing staff at Byrd Hospital, Dr. Strener, Dr. Granger, Vernon Home Health, and Leesville Hospice for their excellent care. They would also like to thank the VFW 3106, Leesville Fire Department, and Vernon Parish Sheriffs' Department for showing such respect at his service.
Rick requested to be cremated and for a private family memorial service at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. Words of comfort and memories of Rick may be posted at www.jeanesfs.com.
