Ray was born on July 10, 1953 in Greensboro, North Carolina. His childhood and early years were spent in California where he developed a love for the ocean. He loved to scuba dive and fish with his brothers, sisters, and best friends. He was an adventurer at heart and made the most of every day. He loved to travel and explore the world. Ray was a man that one would not soon forget after encountering him even once. His charisma, infectious smile, and laughter permeated the darkest spots. His care and compassion for others was evident in all he did. He believed that everyone had the ability to be something and someone. He believed in you even when you didn’t believe in yourself. He was a great mentor to many. His accomplishments were countless and include 20 Years of dedicated Military Service retiring as a Sergeant First Class from the United States Army. During his time in the Military he acted as a Recruiter Achieving the Army’s recruiting highest military award the Chiefs Fifty Award and Gold Badge and GOLD Ring Recruiter. In addition to the awards, the impacts of his career as a recruiter can be seen through lives in our community and throughout the world today. After his career as a recruiter he went on to a successful career in Insurance attaining his Series 6 license and reaching Gold Ring status for American Amicable and American National Life Insurance Company. He took his experience and stellar track record and dove head first into Real Estate where his love of people flourished. In 1992 he went to work for Century 21 in Leesville as a Real Estate Sales Professional and Property Manager. In 2001 he went onward in his Real Estate Career to Franchise Sales Director of Century 21 for Louisiana and South Texas. During that time, his reach to the Brokers and small companies throughout Louisiana was profound. He was a part of the brand during Hurricane Katrina and arranged a National Guard Helicopter for the President of Century 21, Tom Koontz, to survey the Southern LA Territory. From that position, he moved up the ranks to Regional Sales Director for Cendant/Realogy Corporation which owns Century 21, Coldwell Banker, and ERA. He was to oversee region 162 of C21 which is South Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi -a region of over 200 individually owned real estate firms with branches, and satellite offices and over 4500 sales associates. This regions average PPP was 0.83 and he adjusted the business model moving productivity to over 1.2 transactions per person, driving 5400 transactions monthly during peak selling season. Transactions are mixed commercial, Residential, Land and Leasing. He maneuvered the region from second to last place in eighteen months to number one in per person productivity and growth within the Century 21 system internationally.
He then went on the become the CEO of Candice Skinner Real Estate working directly with his daughter, Candice Medina Skinner, where he set up systems, developed tools, recruited, and trained agents. He was more than the CEO he was the Office Dad, mentor, coach, cheerleader, and sounding board. He was the backbone of the company even when he wasn’t there. He also worked with clients through property management and sales. Each person he touched never could forget him. He had a way with people like none other. His experience and wisdom were far too great for such a small company, but he blessed us anyways with his constant support and knowledge. He loved having events and get-togethers and wanted everything to be first class.
His reach went far beyond his career. He impacted his family the most with his love - His unwavering unconditional love. He would fight for us when we were low, he provided for us always, took us on the best vacations and showed us how to live life to the fullest even when we were scared. His jokes were the best and would always make you laugh. He loved music and a wide variety of music at that with one of his favorite singers being Adele. He was a great story teller and one of the funniest men you could ever meet. He loved life and loved to eat, especially steak and lobster.
He did and will continue to empower us with his love. He took our fear away and told us we could do anything. To this day and forevermore, we believe him. He made us feel special as though God called us for something greater. His love for his wife is a special love that the flame will never grow dim on.
