Obituary for Patricia Monk Akins
Funeral services honoring the life of Patricia Jean Monk Akins will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021, at 2:00 PM at La Camp Church of God with Brother Shawn Waggoner, Brother Joe Wellman, and Brother Jeff Scroggins officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.
Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, January 7, 2021, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM and again on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Patricia Jeane Monk Akins was born January 22, 1943, to LeRoy Monk and Tressie Miller Monk in Leesville, LA. She passed away on January 3, 2021, at her home in La Camp surrounded by her family at the age of 77. Patricia was a 1961 graduate of Hicks High School. After graduation, she started a longtime career as a bank teller. She worked at Merchants and Farmers Bank and Regions Bank. After retiring, she worked several years at Hicks High School as a teacher’s aide with special education. Our mama was a beautiful woman. She always made sure our family had what we wanted or needed. She loved to be dressed up and with make up all the time. She took great pride in her appearance and loved to shop. She always wanted to look her best, and she did. She was known by many names, Mama, MawMaw Pat, Sweetie, Aunt Pat, and PJ. She dearly loved her girls, grandkids, and great grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Rodney Lynn Monk, and grandson Casey Powell.
Left to cherish all the beautiful memories are the love of her life for 59 years, husband, Billy Akins,
daughters, Letitia Dees (David) and Lisa “Bug” Powell (Rickey),
grandchildren, Danielle Zander (David), Chelsey Burns (Jared), Haleigh Newnham, Chase Powell (Michael), and Blake Powell,
great grandchildren, Annissa Zander, Jenna Zander, Cruz Watson, Knox Burns, and Olive Burns,
sisters-in-law, Glenda Monk, Marie Farmer, and Madeline Hymes,
nieces and nephews, Brenda Webb Cronin, Gat-Lynn Webb, Preston Webb, Meghan Webb, Keleigh Mestayer, Zach Smith, Jessica Page, Trey Norris, Natalie Norris, and Nathaniel Page,
and bonus brother, Shawn Waggoner.
