Obituary for Patricia Hanchey-Berry
A funeral service for Patricia Hanchey "Pat" Berry, 77, will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Leesville, LA at 2:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Pat passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014. Burial will follow in the Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, La under the direction of Jeane"s Funeral Service of Leesville. Pat was born on January 21, 1937, at her grandparents house, Frank and Emma Genius in Kinder, Louisiana. She spent her younger years in Oberlin and Kinder, Louisiana. She attended and graduated from LaGrange High School, Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1955 where she was a Gatorette. She attended McNeese State University, Lake Charles, Louisiana. Pat was an avid reader and loved cooking. She would spend time reading her large collection of cookbooks and trying the new recipes. Pat adored her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandson. She assisted her husband, Dick, in founding the Leesville High School Alumni Association and stayed active in assisting with duties of the Association. She was behind the development of the Alumni-by-Choice "ABC" membership designation. She and Dick were instrumental in growing the association and coordinating the annual alumni homecoming activities. Pat was a devoted bridge player and enjoyed her many afternoons with her Bridge Club and partners; Barbara Cox, Tresa Abramson, Jean Beavers, Linda Harris, Bonnie Hicks, Johnnie Mae Palmer, Susie Neubert, Pat Martinez, Margaret Rachal, Jan Scoles, Martha Rankin, Cliff and Claire Boudreaux, and all the other ladies that she has enjoyed playing bridge with over the years. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Richard West "Dick" Berry, Sr.; her son Richard W. "Dicky" Berry Jr.; parents, James Aswell, "Pat" Hanchey and Wynonah Genius Hanchey. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Greg "Frank" Franklin of Anacoco; step-daughter and husband, Denise and Eddie Esserman of St. Simon Island, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Marty Berry of Lake Charles. Granddaughter Tiffany Franklin Koch and husband Nathan; step-granddaughter Hanna Esserman; grandsons, James and Matthew Berry and great-grandson, Koa Koch. Her siblings and spouses, Randall and Charlene Hanchey, Judy Hanchey, Penny and Henry Bauer, Stephen Hanchey, and Candy and Drexel Meadors. Her dear friends, Tina "Teeny" and Ikey Davidson and Jean Beavers. Pallbearers will be James Berry, Matthew Berry, James Armes, Ricky Ross, Elvin Fontenot and Greg Stracner.
