Obituary for Nona Louise Key
Nona Louise (Fuller) Key, 64 of Minden, Louisiana was born on Tuesday, October 8, 1957, in Trona, California, to Billy Clifford Fuller and Doris Ann (Rich) Fuller. Nona passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
Nona graduated Colcord, Oklahoma High School on May 16, 1975 and married her lifetime love Jerry Key on May 17, 1975. She would go on to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas where she earned her Associates Degree in Nursing in May of 1978
Nona’s first love was for her Lord Jesus Christ. Her grandmother, Flora Bea Fuller, led her to the Lord at an early age. Nona was fully committed to serving Christ, and took advantage of any opportunity to share him with others. She took to the roll as a pastor’s wife with such grace and dignity that she made everyone she met feel loved and important in the eyes of her Lord.
Nona also loved her family and was the happiest when she was cooking a new meal for them, which she had seen featured on the Food Chanel or some other cooking show. She also loved her church and while she was able, she enjoyed cooking large meals for a church function. Often times that would include a large brisket or a huge pot of gumbo.
Her hobbies included cooking, fishing, pottery, painting, and loving on her grandchildren. She worked as an RN for nearly 40 years in hospitals in Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana. In each new hospital, it didn’t matter which position or department she would start at, she always excelled and would no doubt be in charge of something. She retired from nursing in 2012 while working at Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital, Fort Polk, Louisiana as Chief of Managed Care. However, retirement didn’t conclude her love for nursing as she would volunteer to be camp nurse at a local children’s camp or on a mission trip to some place in need. She was always willing to offer medical aide to a host of family and friends that simply needed to know what to do with any number of minor medical emergencies. She also took advantage of her skills as a nurse during her many lengthy stays in a hospital. While there she would tell anyone that entered her room about her Jesus. Many times, those conversation led to deep spiritual discussions concerning the individual’s salvation. During those lengthy stays in the hospital she would also have the nursing staff grilling her for nuggets of wisdom from her vast knowledge and experience.
Nona is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jerry Key of Minden, LA.
Three daughters, Jennifer Pye (Jerry) of Minden, LA; Kimberly Mandino (Trace) of Dubberly, LA; Libby Chesson (Tim) of Merryville, LA.
Six grandchildren, Madison Pye and adopted grandson Hayden Finley, Abe Pye, Luke Mandino, Maggie Mandino, and Brittany Norred and husband Phillip Norred,
One great grandchild, Elizabeth Norred.
Fourteen nieces and nephews.
One brother, John Fuller of Oklahoma.
One aunt, Donna Philips of Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
A multitude of extended family and friends!
She is proceeded in death by her father Billy C. Fuller and mother Doris A. Fuller.
