Obituary for Nathaniel Reece Chance
Nathaniel Reece Chance was born April 14, 1934, in Hornbeck, LA and passed away March 15, 2022, in Bossier City, LA at the age of 87. After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Army before settling in Bossier City. Nathaniel worked as a butcher for various grocery stores then for Toledo Scales installing and maintaining commercial scales. He was a member of Bossier City Church of Christ, and his hobbies included fishing and hunting. He could often be found drinking coffee with his friends and giving the waitress a hard time. Politics were important to Nathaniel, and he enjoyed supporting his favorite candidate.
Nathaniel was preceded in death by his parents, John Meredith Chance and Audrey Cordelia Hilton Chance and siblings, Gene Chance, Ann Smart, and Doris Knippers all of Hornbeck.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 13 years, Paula Chance of Bossier City;
brother, Walter Chance and wife Vickie of Hornbeck;
sisters, Theresa Nicks, Eula Durrett, and Sharon Mason and husband Larry all of Hornbeck;
nephews and nieces, Linda Cearley, Terry Devones, Mary Kuhn, Gail Bliss, Karen Young, and Rodney Dudley;
and a host of extended family members.
Funeral services for Nathaniel will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Prewitt’s Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Chance officiating. Burial will follow in Prewitt’s Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, March 17th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Ray Devones, Larry Scroggins, Mike Young, Heath Smith, Ty Knippers, and David Mouhot. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Barefield, Charlie Sojourner, Marion Clark, and Jim Procell.
