Funeral services for Michael Edward Longsworth will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Fort Hope Baptist Church, at 10:00AM with Bro. Keary Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the Central Veteran’s Cemetery at 1:00 PM under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Fort Hope Baptist Church from 5:00-7:00PM and celebration with family and friends sharing stories, memories, songs, and “PawPaw” jokes to follow.
On July 11th, 1956, Michael Edward Longsworth was born to Richard and Teresa Longsworth, and grew up in Ft Wayne, Indiana with his brothers, Rick Longsworth, Bill Longsworth and David Longsworth. In 1973 he met the love of his life Kathy Marie Bland, who he married on August 19 , 1974. He enlisted in the United States Army as a young man where they raised their family of three children Cassy Jo, Michael Edward Jr, and Jay Edward. He dedicated his life to the army and its values retiring honorably afterward he refocused his life on training the next generation of soldiers with the Joint Readiness Training Center at Ft. Polk, Louisiana. His commitment to God grew through the years and his use by God to bless others increased throughout his life. He was a stalwart and steadfast Servant of God and an anchor for Fort Hope Church where he has served since 2002. His dedication to growing in his knowledge of God led his lifelong achievements in education culminating in his posthumous Doctorate in theology.
He was preceeded in death by father: Richard J Longsworth, mother: Teresa Jean Longsworth (Stanford) and grandson: Xzavier Capehart.
He is celebrated by his survivors, wife of 48 years: Kathy Marie Longsworth (Bland),
daughter: Cassy Jo Hall,
sons: Michael Edward Longsworth Jr, and Jay Edward Longsworth,
grandchildren: Alex Eugene Longsworth, Briana Nicole Westmoreland, Desire’ Hope Bruce (Longsworth), and Xzavier Capehart,
great grandchildren: Audric Johnson, Ayden Johnson, Noah Longsworth, and Braydin Capehart,
the families and extended families of his brothers, Rick Longsworth, Bill Longsworth and David Longsworth along with the countless found family, children, and grandchildren that he and his legacy have blessed through his life and service to others.
In leiu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fort Hope Baptist Church or Beams Bible Ministry.
