Mavis was born September 15, 1935, in Peason, Louisiana and passed away January 18, 2022, in Leesville, LA at the age of 86. She worked for a short time as a secretary at St. Michael’s Catholic Church before working for over 15 years for the Vernon Parish School System as a remedial reading teacher. Mavis was a longtime, faithful member of East Leesville Baptist church where she served on the food committee and made many meals for church events. Everyone loved her coconut pies. She was a member of the same Sunday School class for 42 years and would volunteer to rock babies in the nursery class. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and taking special Mother’s Day trips. At home, Mavis was the perfect example of a loving wife and mother. She spent many hours working in her yard and garden and even more hours cooking delicious meals. She had a joyful disposition and truly enjoyed being a caretaker to her family. She was fiercely loyal to them and their number one supporter.
