Obituary for Martha Ann Leach Sanderson
Martha Ann Leach Sanderson, 85, passed from life to life on January 6, 2018 with her family by her side.
Martha Ann was born July 19, 1932 to Claude and Lucille Leach in Leesville, Louisiana. After graduating from Leesville High School, she attended Northwestern State University of Louisiana, graduating in 1954. While at Northwestern she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and Purple Jackets Honor Society. Following graduation, she moved to Texas and held positions with Jack Tar Hotels, River Brand Rice, and Tennessee Gas Corporation. While living in Houston, she met and then married Ralph Orion Sanderson. Their marriage would last 55 years until his death in 2015. In 1963 she gave birth to twin sons and devoted herself to their care. During this time, she was a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church and active in the Assistance League of Houston. Following Ralph’s retirement, they resided in Tampa, Florida.
Martha Ann was predeceased by her parents and loving husband Ralph, along with sister Gloria Owen. She is survived by sons James Claude (Rossie King) Sanderson and William Ralph (Amy Gavin) Sanderson, with their daughters Claire and Ann Marie. She is also survived by her siblings Mixon Lee Brabham, Claude Leach Jr. and his wife Laura, Frances Watson and her husband Robert, Carolyn Huntoon and her husband Harry, along with many nieces and nephews.
Throughout life, family was the most important thing to Martha Ann. She was always very close with her family and looked forward to every moment with them. She was blessed with a fighting spirit and wonderful sense of humor and will be missed. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Ivelise Felix for her loving care of Martha Ann in recent years. A celebration of her life will be held in Leesville, Louisiana at 12:00 p.m. on January 27, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church.
