Our dear mother, Margaret Diane Bridges, of Leesville, Louisiana, died peacefully on November 13, 2024, in her home at the age of 80.
Born on September 25, 1944, to J.C. and Lucille Tucker Herrington of Leesville, Diane will be remembered for her warmth and strength. She dedicated her life to her family, always there with support and love in abundance.
For many years, Diane worked at South Central Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She transferred to the Alexandira office for several years before taking work as a telephone operator at Fort Polk until her retirement. After retirement, she worked Role Play for Fort Polk Joint Readiness Training.
Diane married the late Gary Bridges in 1996. They were the love of each other’s lives until his passing in 2015.
Diane had a love for nurturing things. She enjoyed gardening and planting flowers. Sitting on her porch watching hummingbirds at her many feeders was one of her favorite past times. She thoroughly enjoyed a Coca-Cola and a good hamburger. Diane was an avid football fan. Possibly her most favorite thing to do was to go to garage sales with her sister, Linda, to search for treasures.
Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Bridges and her brother, Billy Herrington.
Diane is survived by her children: Paul (Veronica) Mayo of Leesville, Annette Mayo of Leesville, Martin (Quana) Mayo of Anacoco, Gary A. (Dianne) Bridges of Minden, LA, James (Marissa) Bridges of Dayton, OH, Cheryl (Jeff) Darley of Atlanta, GA, and Beverly Boyett of Keithville, LA; sisters, Dorothy Dean Walker of Anacoco, Shirley Hilton of Anacoco, Linda Haymon of Leesville, and Emily (Victor) Austin of Leesville; seven grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Diane’s wish was to be laid to rest in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery next to her husband, Gary. Her family will gather to honor her with a private memorial service.
