Louis James Cammack, 91, also known as “Jim”, “pawpaw”, or “Uncle Jim” of Leander, Louisiana passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends on February 12, 2025. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. All who knew him knew love. He was born in Buhl, Idaho on September 20, 1933, to the late Francis Percival Cammack and Dorothea Hudson Cammack. He served in the United States Air Force for 22 years, where he was a dedicated crew member who monitored and managed the aircraft engines. He also monitored the performance fuel system and mechanical system. He served in the Vietnam War. He specifically flew on the AC-119 Shadow Gunship. Although he was proud of these accomplishments, he was most proud of his marriage to Arline Wilson Cammack on April 9, 1955. They met at a concert at the rodeo arena while he was stationed at England Air Force Base out of Alexandria, Louisiana. They were married for 57 years. Together, they had four children: Ginger Golemon (Wayne), Randy Cammack (Margaret), David Cammack (Norma), and Valarie Cammack. He had eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, one sister, Marilyn Davis (Dave), and a host of nieces and nephews. He was a devoted church member who loved his Lord. He enjoyed reading his Bible and helping with the Awana program.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Arline Cammack; one grandson, Jeffrey Golemon; his parents, Francis Cammack and Dorothea Cammack; and one brother, Francis Cammack Jr.
Funeral services with military honors for Jim will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Big Hammock Church in Leander. The burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas McClure, Justin Cammack, Josh Carlock, Jay King, Caleb Cammack, and Evean Emerson. A visitation will be held at Big Hammock Church on Thursday, February 13th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
