Obituary for Leona McKee Wedgeworth
Funeral services for Leona McKee Wedgeworth will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Anacoco First Baptist Church with Reverend Chad King officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, August 25th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Leona was born March 29, 1944, in Pickering, Louisiana and passed away August 22, 2021, in Anacoco, Louisiana at the age of 77. She began her career as a social worker for Child Protective Services then taught kindergarten at Fort Polk before making her final career change to Anacoco High School. For about 17 years, Leona taught Home Economics and provided unique learning opportunities to her students. She promoted the Future Homemakers of America, and many students have fond memories of their time spent in her classroom. Leona was the heart of her home and enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting, and gardening.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Alva McKee and sister, Yvonne Roberson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years, Kenneth Wedgeworth of Anacoco;
son, Brad Wedgeworth and fiancée Stephanie Brown of Anacoco;
daughters, Amy Wedgeworth Abbott and Lenora Wedgeworth both of Anacoco; and Pam Erwin whom she loved like a daughter;
grandchildren, Kayla Nicole Abbott, Cody Wayne Abbott, Cameron Drake Wedgeworth, Colby Garner Leon Wedgeworth, Cali Brook Wedgeworth, Jayla Claire Calloway, Keiran Draycen Calloway, and Jared Haymon;
great grandchildren, Aaliyah Nicole Arndt, Madalynn Shae Abbott, and Layten Floyd Miller;
sisters, Glenworth “Glennie” McKee Farris of San Antonio, TX and Nelda McKee Murray of Anacoco;
and a host of extended family.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Brandon, Ben Calhoun, Charlie Draughn, Chris Draughn, Blake Frederick, and Jonathan Nash.
