Obituary for Katie Mae Young
A graveside service for Katie Mae Kimbler Young will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 27, 2021, in Evans Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.
Katie was born February 16, 1931, in Van Buren, Arkansas and passed away September 23, 2021, in Leesville, LA at the age of 90.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Young Sr.; son, Clayton Paul Young; parents, Joseph Clayton Kimbler and Flora Marie Holley Kimbler; siblings, Clayton Kimbler Jr., David W. Kimbler, Rose Marie Ramos, and Mary Louise Prince; and granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Young.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dennis “Denny” Young Jr. and wife Teresa of Evans, LA;
grandchildren, Coleen Jarrell, Sherrie Ashworth (Harvey), Paul Young (Pam), Dennis Ray Young (Tomi), Tyrel Young, and Echo Ullman (Anthony);
great grandchildren, Bret Sandel, Alex Sandel, Landri Biscamp, Christopher Ashworth, Katelynn Ashworth, Caleb Ashworth, Cole Ashworth, Anabel Storey Trenton Short, Kira Bowling, Kimberly Bowling, Kioshi Young, Dennis Ray Young Jr., Dominick Young, Raven Young, Elizabeth Young, Wyatt Young, and Charles Young;
great-great grandchildren, Emmett Murray, Bryar Haymon, Lili Haymon, Cayden Haymon, and Sawyer Haymon;
sisters, Juanita Scharnberg of Van Buren, Arkansas and Jo Ann Graham (Cleon) of Sallisaw, OK;
and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
To bed she wore house coats and slippers,
Outside at night when she showed us the Big Dipper.
Thank goodness she passed on her dumplin’ and homemade biscuit recipe,
People from all over town would stop for a glass of her extra sweet tea.
She would have to drag PawPaw out of the garage in time for supper,
And boy how that man really loved her.
For my addiction to coffee milk I have her to thank,
No matter what time of day or heat of summer we always sat and drank.
She weighed all of 102,
But in that radio flyer with her pulling Bret and I she flew.
And if she wasn’t pulling one of us around in the little red wagon,
Blueberries we would pick by the gallon.
That silky white hair was never a mess,
To church she always wore an ironed dress.
Catfish we would catch by the plenty,
You never left her house with your stomach empty.
In her 90 years she never drove a car,
PawPaw was her personal chauffeur.
Every year they planted a garden with fresh peas to shell,
I could go on for hours with countless stories to tell.
But for now I’ll leave it at this,
For you to know this was our only wish.
WE LOVED YOU A BUSHEL AND A PECK AND A HUG AROUND THE NECK!
