Obituary for Karla Jane Wright
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Karla Jane Wright, age 61, Sunday, May 22, 2022, in her home in Leesville Louisiana. Our family is deeply saddened by her sudden and unexpected death.
Karla was born January 07, 1961, in Houston, Texas. Elmer and Inez Smith had been praying for a miracle and Karla was just 3 months old when they first laid eyes on her and knew that God had answered their prayers. She was the apple of her daddy's eye and her mother's greatest gift.
At the age of 15, she married her childhood sweetheart, James E. Wright, Jr., and they had three beautiful daughters: Amber, April, and Arika. Although Karla and Jimmy have since been divorced for 30 years, they have remained the very best of friends.
Academically, Karla was gifted. She graduated from the University of New Orleans with honors and was listed on the National Dean’s List, the University of New Orleans President’s List, and Who’s Who among outstanding college graduates. She was a talented writer and even had some of her poetry published in the book Treasured Poems of America in 1990.
Karla worked as a human resources manager in Sulphur, where she easily won the hearts of her employers and coworkers. They all considered her family. She had a nurturing spirit and a great love of animals. She enjoyed being outside working in her yard and in her garden. She was happy just being in her pool in the summer or by a fire in the fall with her grandkids by her side. Mardi Gras was her favorite holiday, and she absolutely loved the city of New Orleans. She was a diehard Saint’s fan and enjoyed going to games when she was able to.
Funeral arrangements are as follows.
A homegoing service will be held on Monday May 30, 2022, at 2:00 PM at First United Pentecostal Church of Leesville under the direction of Pastor Christian. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her daddy in Hicks Pentecostal Church Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Mathew Treadway, Evan Steele, Caden Cooley, Archie Clark, David McCall, Brandon McCall, and Robert Highbaugh. Honorary pallbearers will be James E Wright Jr., Kevin Steele, Randy Brooks, Tommy Brooks, Thomas Allen Burns, and Wayne Burns.
Karla was preceded in death by her father, Elmer O Smith and brother Richard D Smith, both of Leesville. Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Lillian Inez Smith of Leesville; the father of her children, (Jimmy) James E. Wright Jr. of Moss Bluff; daughters, Amber D'aun Steele (Kevin) of New Llano, April Dawn Wright, of Leesville, & Arika Wright Treadway (Mathew) of Moss Bluff; grandchildren, Evan Jacole Steele & Araya Janae’ Steele of New Llano, and Lana Grace Treadway & Shaun Wayne Treadway of Moss Bluff; and close friend, Ellen Mitchell of Destrehan.
