Funeral services for Johnny “John” L. Brinkley will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Jeane’s Funeral Service, 100 E. Union St. Leesville, LA with Brother James Martin and Reginald Jeter officiating. The burial with full military honors will follow in Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Jeane’s on Thursday, June 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
John was born December 8, 1938, in Palo Pinto, Texas and passed away June 5, 2023, in Alexandria, Louisiana at the age of 84. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and during that time served two tours in Vietnam. John continued his public service by working for the Vernon and Caddo Parish Sheriff offices and retired from both parishes. He was a member of the VFW and 11th Calvary Armored Regiment “Black Horse”. When his health permitted, John was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, and liked to bowl. He was a 30-year survivor of cancer.
John was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Brinkley; granddaughters, Miranda & Kristen Jeter; parents, Johnnie Leroy Brinkley & Mildred Louise Smith Brinkley; and siblings, Circle Anderson & Rosalyn Lindsey.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Bobbye Brinkley of Anacoco, LA;
sons, SFC (retired) John Alan Brinkley and wife Shonda of Knoxville, TN, Reginald L. Jeter and wife Mary of Haughton, LA, and Tony D. Jeter and wife Callie of Cincinnati, OH;
daughters, Brenda Brinkley McDonald and husband Kenny of Shreveport, LA, Laura Brinkley Leone and husband Stephen (deceased) of Shreveport, LA, and Michele Owers of Anacoco, LA;
grandchildren, Dr. J. Nicholas McDonald and wife Natalie, Collin McDonald and wife Chandler, Zacharye Leone and wife Kristen, SGT Jacob Brinkley and wife Alexander, SrA James Brinkley, Jason Perdue, Amanda Bracksieck and husband Curtis, Jared Jeter, and Harlan Jeter;
great-grandchildren, Ava Leone, Kate McDonald, and Dallas Bracksieck;
and a host of extended family members.
John’s family extends their sincere thanks to the second-floor staff at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital for their care and compassion.
