Obituary for Johnny Elmo Cryer
Funeral services for John “Elmo” Cryer will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Lonestar Baptist Church in Hineston, LA with Reverend Kurt Ryder officiating. Burial will follow in Hineston Fellowship Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Greg Pharis, Dicky Brister, Martin Cupples, Jamey Robinson, Greg Perry, and Ray Philen. Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Brister, Dallas Lewis, Bo Cryer, and Johnny Cryer. A visitation will be held at the church on Monday, July 18th from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Elmo was born June 23, 1945, in Leesville, LA and passed away July 15, 2022, in Sieper, LA at the age of 77. He was a distinguished police officer for the Alexandria Police Department where he was selected Policeman of the Year by his fellow officers of the police force. Elmo retired from the Alexandria Police Department and the Leesville Fire Department. In addition to this work, he also owned and operated C&C Trucking Company. Elmo had a passion for rodeo and found time to volunteer in many ways to support this sport. He was a past member of the Louisiana Rodeo Association and served on the Board of Directors of Tie-Down Calf Roping. He was a member of Tri State Rodeo, United States Team Roping, World Series Team Roping, and judged rodeos throughout Louisiana. Most of all, Elmo loved spending time with his son and two grandchildren roping, riding, and going out for a good meal with them at Ida Gayle’s. He will be greatly missed by all.
Elmo was preceded in death by his parents, J.T. Cryer and Thelma Thornton Cryer; brother, John Edward Cryer; and nephew, Charles Cryer.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Jody Elmo Cryer of Sieper;
two grandchildren, Justin Latch Cryer and Jaxton Coy Cryer of Sieper;
nephews, Johnny & Susan Cryer and Joseph “Bo” & Cheri Cryer;
sister-in-law, Annie Rose Cryer of Leesville;
and a host of friends.
