Obituary for Johnny "Charles" McLaurin
Funeral services for Johnny Charles McLaurin will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019 at the House of Prayer for All People with Pastor Gary McCoy officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation time for the family and friends of Mr. McLaurin will be held at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Johnny Charles McLaurin was born October 17, 1950 to Vivian McLaurin and the late Jim
McLaurin in Picayune, MS. He was a 1970 graduate of George Washington Carver High
School, Picayune MS.
He lived most of his adult life in Spanaway,Wa where he was a member of Shiloh Baptist
Church.
Staff Sergeant McLaurin was in the US Army from 1970-1978. He did a tour in Vietnam
1971-1972, and Korea 1975-1976. He was a highly decorated soldier with medals: National
Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm,
Oversea Service Bar, Good Conduct Medal. He was awarded an honorable discharge in
September 1978. Staff Sergeant McLaurin later attended Clover Park Technical College, where
he received a degree in Auto Body Repair. He proudly worked for U.S. Government Civil
Service for 36 years, retiring in 2013. After retirement he returned home to Leesville, LA.
Johnny Charles McLaurin was married to his wife Divon McLaurin for 45 years and in
their union combined 5 children.
He leaves to cherish his memories to his beloved wife, Divon, 2 sons, Laquirel McDowell
of Picayune, MS and Jerry(Tina) White, Tacoma, WA. 3 daughters, Tarshundra(Robert)
Bingham of Laurel MS, Vivian(Cory) McCoy of Leesville, LA, Joan(John) Halmast Lakebay Wa;
his beloved mother, Vivian McLaurin of Picayune, MS; his brothers and sisters, Charles H.
McLaurin Hattiesburg MS, Victor(Robin) McLaurin Amarillo, TX, Joyce Watson Picayune MS,
Josephine Turner Pontiac, MI, Brenda(Michael) Tatum Gulfport, MS, Cynthia(Kevin) Cooley
Baton Rouge, LA and a loving nephew Jesse Mclaurin Pontiac, MI; brother and sister in laws
John L White, Donald(Brenda) White, Alma White, Shirley(Thomas) White, Daisy McLaurin, an
aunt Addie Bullock and loving host of 24 grandchildren, 2 great-grand daughters,
nieces,nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Jim McLaurin; siblings Willie James McLaurin,
Cornelius McLaurin, Chirley McLaurin and Johnnie B. McLaurin.
