Obituary for John William Hines
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:1-3
Jesus came for John William Hines, age 88, on Thursday, December 24, 2020. John’s family instilled in him a life that valued kindness and service to others. John Hines lived a life devoted to his faith, family and friends.
Following high school, John joined the US Navy, proudly serving his country on the USS Burton Island. After an honorable discharge, John returned to his native Louisiana where he fished, hunted, participated in various water sports, and began a 40 year career with a gas company.
After moving to Leesville in the mid 1960s, John became active in the Rotary Club, Ducks Unlimited, American Legion, the Lion’s Club, and the NRA. An avid outdoorsman, John spent a lot of time fishing and competing in local tournaments. He also enjoyed camping, woodworking, reading and listening to Gospel music, especially quartets. John spent many years volunteering with the Leesville High School Band Parents where he also served as Treasurer. He also enjoyed being an active member of Anacoco Baptist Church. He took great pleasure in recent years listening to his wife and daughters read the Bible to him.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Alice Hines, two brothers Jim and Tom Hines, and son-in-law Phil Reynolds.
Left to cherish his memory, John is survived by his loving wife Jeanette T. Hines; daughters Felicia Robinson and husband Mark and Debbie Reynolds; stepsons Tommy Coulter and wife Amanda and Kenny Coulter; stepdaughters Kathy Ussery and husband Brian and Karen Ruth Coulter Ball; sister Jenny Lindley and husband Gary, eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and a host of extended family.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Jeane’s Funeral Home Leesville from 9am-11am. A graveside service officiated by Mark Robinson, pastor of Grosse Tete Baptist Church will follow at 1:30pm at the Central Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery. Masks and social distancing are required at visitation and the graveside service.
