Obituary for John Joseph Driscoll
John Joseph Driscoll was born May 24, 1952, and passed away January 26, 2022, at the age of 69. He was of the Catholic faith and attended school at St. Michael’s Catholic Church before graduating from Leesville High School in 1970. While in high school, John excelled in many sports and played for varsity teams as a freshman and on many all-district teams. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in education and for over thirty years taught in Vernon Parish schools before retiring in 2011. John began his teaching career at Vernon Middle and West Leesville Elementary before moving to Leesville Junior High School where he was known as Coach D. He left a lasting impression on his students and many remember his favorite quote, “Kids crave discipline”. He would say this while shaking his finger. He also taught shop and math. Besides being a gifted athlete and teacher, John was a talented painter and master woodworker. He painted handmade wooden trays and would paint the names of each year’s team and a Wampus Cat on the gym wall at the Junior High. Building things was his passion and he shared this with his family by making many gifts for them with his own hands. His home was built by himself with the help of his two sons and is full of furniture that he created. He also created signs for many local businesses. John had a green thumb and was a talented landscaper who could grow anything. He enjoyed being at home working in his shops with his large collection of tools or caring for his chickens, geese, squirrels, and many generations of puppies. He was known as Brother John to his son’s friends because he enjoyed instructing them how to use his tools.
