A memorial Service for Joan Maudine Jackson Smith will be Monday, July 22, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Simpson Baptist Church with Brother Paul Watts and Brother Jeremy Blocker officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, July 22, 2024, starting at 9:00 AM until the time of service. There will be no graveside service.
Joan Maudine Jackson Smith was born on January 23, 1945, in Alexandria, LA, to Harold and Essie Lee Jackson. The Lord called Joan home on July 19, 2024, at the age of 79, while at her residence, surrounded by her loving family and best friend.
Joan and her twin sister, Joyce, were born in Alexandria, LA, and raised in Houston, TX. Joan moved to Simpson, LA in 1963 where she resided for 63 years.
Joan was an operator for South Central Bell, owned and worked the family business “Smith Grocery”, she was a substitute teacher at Simpson High School until she became the city clerk for the Village of Simpson in 1993, until her retirement 23 years later in 2016.
Joan was a loving mother, Nana, daughter, sister, friend and a faithful member of Simpson Baptist Church.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Essie Lee Jackson.
She is survived by her twin sister “her sissy” Joyce J. Johnson of Simpson, LA; daughter Staci S. Silk of Kennedale, TX; son James R. Smith III “Trey” of Simpson, LA; grandson Jackson M. Bollinger of Dallas, TX; nephew Kevin R. Johnson of Simpson, LA, and numerous other beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Simpson Baptist Church, P.O. Box 37, Simpson, LA 71474.
