Joan Alice Bennett Hughes was born on September 4, 1942, in Waxahachie, TX to Clyde Luther Bennett Sr, and Ottie Lou Paul Bennett. She passed away on December 9, 2020, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the age of 78. She worked as an EMT while getting her nursing degree, made many friends, and touched the lives of countless patients during her 25+ year career. Not only did her patients love her, but her colleagues at Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital, Byrd Hospital, and Beauregard Memorial respected and adored her as well. Not including her traveling nursing friends and companions with whom she toured the country healing, experiencing different cultures, and forming lifelong bonds. They all pale in comparison, however, to the love that she shared with and received from her family. Her favorite thing in the world was spending time with them. Whether it was sitting around talking, enjoying a meal, or even just a simple shopping trip to buy a new hat - she was happy as long as there was love and laughter. When she had free time, she loved to travel, read (especially about the Civil War and Princess Diana), and was a wonderful crafter. She made innumerable crafts while utilizing her expert skills at crocheting, cross-stitching, sewing, and jewelry making. She especially loved making crocheted baby blankets and quilts for expected babies. She brought sunshine into the lives of more people than most have even met in their lifetime. She will be loved immeasurably, remembered fondly, and missed sorely.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and son George L Hughes III.
She is survived by her husband George L Hughes, Jr,
sons, Ronald (Bill) L. Hughes and wife Angelene (Angee), Robert (Lucky) W Hughes and wife Debbie, Thomas S. Hughes and wife Ashley,
sister, Binnie Ann Bennett Stevison and husband Rodger D.,
brother, Clyde L. Bennett, Jr. and wife Charlene
16 grandchildren,
23 great grandchildren,
and numerous nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
