Obituary for Jo Anne McKee
A graveside service for Jo Anne McKee will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021 in Rosepine Cemetery with Reverend Jason Nolde officiating under the direction of Jeane's Funeral Service.
Jo Anne, 61, passed from this earth after a brief illness in her Rosepine home. Her surviving immediate family include: her brother, Ted McKee; one niece, Michele Jeane Goins and husband Scotty; two nephews, Tony Jeane and wife Nona, Tab Power and wife Leah; four great nephews, Mitch Jeane and wife Casey, Bradley Goins, Alex Jeane and wife Hannah, Tab Power Jr., Max Power; two great nieces, Whitney Goins, Coral Jeane; and a host of extended family and her community family. Her father and mother, Silas and Lydia Ross McKee await her in heaven.
Jo Anne loved life to the fullest. Her home and heart were in Rosepine, LA. She moved away after high school but came back later in life to settle in. She loved playing sports in her younger years. Basketball and softball were two of her passions. Her first career ended in Plano Texas with Time Publishing Company after 20 years. She came home to jump in the midst of being a computer analyst at Fort Polk working with the fire markers. Then following in her mom’s footsteps she became the full time bookkeeper and assistant girls’ basketball coach for a time at Rosepine High School, her alma mater. There she renewed and developed many friendships. Jo Anne and “the Betty’s” of ’77 would take a trip each year if possible, all I can say about this is, “What happens on the trip stays on the trip!”
She was supportive of all school programs, but her heart was truly with sports. She was an excellent photographer and took photos of many student games and always had positive things to say about them. She also was a great supporter of ULM Warhawks basketball team, and we need to mention the numerous trips she made to see her brother, Ted, coaching. If she had a minute at a ballgame, she would use it to strike up a conversation with a fan or two and shared lots of laughs with many people. Her laughter and smile will be missed by all.
Jo Anne loved the Lord and loved to teach children about Him. She taught AWANA Sparks for many years at Rosepine First Baptist and then at DeRidder First Baptist. Jo Anne also coached Upward Basketball at East Leesville Baptist Church when her great nephews and nieces were playing.
Aunt Jo, as she was known to so many, was a great support to her brother, nieces and nephews in anything they set out to accomplish. We were all blessed to have known her and been loved by her.
