Obituary for Jo Ann Hillman
Jo Ann Lynch Hillman was born April 11, 1954, in Leesville, LA to Furman and Joy Faye Lynch. On February 3, 2022, God sent Jo Ann’s daughter, Joy Nell, to come and escort her to her heavenly home with a new and restored body at the age of 67 years, 10 months, and 23 days. She was a lifelong resident of the Simpson/Hutton area where she was a 1972 graduate of Simpson High School. She then went on to study cosmetology and was most well known for her time spent working at Slagle Mall and Simpson High School as a custodian. Most of the students knew her as “Aunt Jo”. She was a founding member, choir singer, and deaconess of The Church House, living her life as a devoted servant to the Lord. Her happiest times were spent cheering on the Simpson Broncos at her daughter’s and grandson’s ballgames, attending the church she was most devoted to, and eating Mexican food with those closest to her.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her daughter, Joy Nell Hillman; parents, Furman & Joy Faye Lynch; sisters, Linda Lynch Griskelis and Yvonne Hall; aunt, Marie McCullum; uncle, Wilson Lynch; best friend, Joan McWilliams; and beloved pet Chihuahua, Snowy.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 49.5 years, Vernell Hillman of Hutton, LA;
grandchildren, Trenton & Laiken Fuselier of Hutton, LA, Dustin & Shelby Jenkins of Start, LA, Logan Taylor (Ashley) of Hutton, LA, and Lori Wiggins (Dale) of Montgomery, LA;
her partner-in-crime, Shae Goins of Hicks, LA;
nieces, Tracy Philips Bourgeious of Simpson, LA and Jaiden Bourgeious of Gonzales, LA;
nephew, Jobe Bourgeious of Gonzales, LA;
and a HOST of nieces and nephews across the greater Vernon Parish area.
Funeral services for Jo Ann will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at The Church House with Reverend Lorainne Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Comrade Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday, February 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Logan Taylor, Devin Thomas, Skyler Merriman, Trent Fuselier, James Taylor, and Patrick Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Tanner, Larry Hillman, Douglas Martin, Jobe Bourgeious, Duece Goins, Gabe Summer, Dalton Stack, and every last Bronco she cheered on.
Jo Ann’s family would like to extend a sincere and specific thank you to Shae Goins, Krysta Hagan, Neva Knight, Lorraine Smith, Rhonda Hampton, June Taylor, Deborah Kerry, Henrietta Leger, Gail Basco, Billie Edwards, Ashley Bellotte, Rhonda Roberts, Kelen Merriman, Karla Liles, Tracy Bourgeious, and the entire Church House.
