Elois, a devoted wife, mom, sister, and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at her home in Caney, Louisiana. Jessie was born on August 21,1935, to Nusam Eaves and Lovie Busby Eaves. She was taught to love her church and God at a young age by her mom, Ms. Lovie.
Elois was a faithful member of Canaan Baptist Church. She loved to sing and worship Jesus with her church family. She worked in the church as secretary for many years. Her WMU ladies were always very special to her. She was known to have the best Cherry Cream Cheese pies at all the church socials.
Elois was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the loudest fan in the crowd when she was watching her grands and great-grands compete in sporting events. She loved to cheer on her family, but she was always ready to head to watch any of her Evans Eagle teams! Elois and her sister Peggy along with their chauffeur, Kevin, traveled all over to watch Evans basketball games. Watching the Eagles brought her immeasurable joy. She was always the best referee and coach in the stands! She was also a very proud 1953 graduate of Evans High School.
She loved to watch HER ASTROS! Watching the games was a nightly ritual at her house. After October, she waited (sometimes not so patiently) for training games to start in the spring. She watched all their games on TV and would go to any games that she could at Minute Maid Park. Jose Altuve was her favorite!
She started working at a young age at Morgan and Lindsey and then went to work at Fort Polk for many years before trying out homemaking. She quickly realized she wanted to be at work and got a job at Merchants and Farmers bank where she retired after many years of service. She continued to work part time with the VPSB as a substitute teacher/bus aide. She always said that she would have loved to have been a high school math teacher.
John Ellis certainly spoiled her in their years together. Her grandson, Mark, questioned her ability to cook him breakfast one morning. She tried to prove him wrong, but papa finished breakfast that morning. Rickie and Johnny continued to spoil her with coffee and breakfast in bed in recent years.
Elois is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John Ellis Harvey; parents, Nusam and Lovie; sister, Dorthy Dowden; and brothers, David, Milton, and Earl Eaves.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kathy (Rickie) Jarrell and Anita (Johnny) Fletcher; grandchildren, Tanya (Mike) Jeane, Jamie (John) Fitzgerald, Jessica (Brittany) Webber, Christina (Robert) Wilkinson, Mark (Catherine) Ward; great-grandchildren, Dawson (Camille) Jeane, Paige Boyd and Collin, Mason Fitzgerald and Zoe, Mollie Wilkinson and Bayler, Sydney Fitzgerald, and Maggie Wilkinson; sisters, Peggy Jeane, Wanda (Wilbur) Duhon, and Becky Rowland; special “adopted” family, Pam and David Brister; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Elois’s daughters have spent many of the last few years taking care of their mom. She adored both of them and they treasured every moment spent with her. They have had many memorable trips to Houston and enjoyed some great times.
A special thank you to Jessica Boose for helping take great care of mom for the last year. Your kindness and love did not go unnoticed. We appreciate MD Anderson Cancer Center of Houston and Hospice of Leesville for helping with her care and supporting our family during this difficult time.
