Janice Dixon was born November 23, 1953, to the union of Milton and Carrie D. Maxie Butler in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She departed this life on December 16, 2022, after her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Edward Dixon of Mobile, Alabama; her loving father and mother, Milton C. Butler and Carrie D. Maxie Butler; brothers, Larry Ray Butler, Darnell R. Butler, and Frankie Lee Butler; loving nephew, James Donnell Butler Davis; maternal grandmother, Willie T. Joiner; and paternal grandparents, Geneva Mathis and Julius Butler.
She leaves behind to mourn her passing two children, Jermaine Dixon and Shalonda Dixon both of Dallas, TX; her beautiful granddaughter, London Grant; five brothers, Leon Brooks of Georgetown, TX, Milton C. Butler (Zella) of Leesville, LA, Clifton Butler, Michael Butler (Sherry), and Cedrick Butler all of Panama City, FL; seven sisters, Delores Carter, Elmerlee Taylor (Bruce) of Panama City, FL, Genevieve Burges (James), Katina Hicks, Shonta Perry, Tanye Carney all of Leesville, LA, and Shameeka Ensley (Marco) of Dallas, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Janice attended Vernon Elementary and Vernon High School. She integrated to Leesville High School in the late 60’s. Janice was very strict and stern and kept us in line when we were children. She was “Our Rock”. She said what she meant and meant what she said. Janice lived in Raleigh, North Carolina for a few years, Panama City, Florida, and then made her home in Dallas, Texas where she lived with her loving family.
She lived for her two children, Shalonda and Jermaine Dixon and her beautiful granddaughter, London Grant. She took care of her great nephew, Jace Dillard (mother Labrina Butler) while she worked from the time he was an infant until the present when her health began to fail. He loved her dearly, and she loved him.
Janice was one of the best cooks around. She was a “seasoned” cook as her son Jermaine would say. Nobody could cook spaghetti the way she could. She would give us the recipe, we would watch her cook and prepare it, but our spaghetti never came out like hers. Her spaghetti was a special request from the family for many years.
Janice loved her sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. She loved our Lord “Jesus Christ”. Janice will be missed by all of us.
