Obituary for Janice Bennett Merchant Fulks
A graveside service for Janice Bennett Merchant Fulks will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 in Pine Island Cemetery, Hwy. 465 Simpson, LA, with Reverends Jeremy Blocker and John Hebert officiating under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held under the pavilion in the cemetery from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Janice was born May 15, 1945 and passed away January 29, 2021 at the age of 75. She worked at Simpson High School for over twenty years before transferring to the Vernon School Board Special Education Department where she continued to serve the students of Vernon Parish.
After retirement, Janice enjoyed spending her days in her rocking chair on the porch watching her ducks and birds. She also enjoyed her monthly game of Pokeno with her “Pokeno Ladies.” She was an avid supporter of high school and youth sports and enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams. She spent many Saturday nights at the race track cheering on her son, and later, her grandson.
At an early age, she started playing the piano and, as a teenager, became the pianist at Simpson Baptist Church, where she played for over 50 years.
She loved spending time with her family and loved having them all gather at her house each Sunday for lunch. She was a master cook in the kitchen and was known all around for her famous chicken and dumplings.
The family would like to say “Thank You” to her caregiver, Kacie Gaspard, and to Leesville Dialysis Center.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Kile and Thelma Bennett and daughter, Lesa Fulks-Smith.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Larry Fulks,
children, Tammy Standifer and husband Greg, Donna Fairchild and husband William, Kenny Merchant and wife Wendy, and Billy Fulks and wife Lisa,
sister, Shirley LaChance and husband Bob,
grandchildren, Traci Parker and husband Jake, Neil Standifer and wife Brittany, Kyle Busby and wife Lauren, Hope Merchant, Bennett Merchant, Dustin Fulks and wife Katelynn, Britney Fulks, Miranda Fulks, Alicia Theeler, Amber Mae McConkey, Amanda Charpentier, and Sean Oveton,
