Obituary for Jack L Bynum
A graveside service for Jack L Bynum will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022, in Self Cemetery in Hornbeck with Reverend Rodney Hicks officiating under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Brandon Stites, Christopher Stites, Jason Flenniken, Rodney Self, Max Peter, and Shane Bonner. Honorary pallbearer will be Jim Hall. A visitation will be held at Jeane’s Funeral Service on Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Jack was born August 8, 1929, in Toro, Louisiana and passed away May 16, 2022, in Leesville, Louisiana at the age of 92. He began working at a service station in Hornbeck then he worked at Hodges Gardens for a while before starting a long career as the groundskeeper at Emerald Hills Golf Resort. Jack worked there for about 40 years until it closed permanently. He enjoyed working with his hands building things and doing mechanic work. His hobbies included gardening, hunting, and especially fishing. His family was the most important thing to Jack, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of his life.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Neal Bynum and Myrtie Jane Lofton Bynum and brothers, Donald Snell and George Bynum.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Marie Oxley Bynum of Leesville;
son, Gerald Bynum of Hornbeck, LA;
daughters, Sue Ann Bynum (Jim Hall) of Anacoco, LA and Jackie Sterling and husband Terry of Hornbeck, LA;
grandchildren, Jason Flenniken and wife Ashley, Shelly Bynum, Chris Stites, Brandon Stites, Max S. Peter and wife Tenisha, and Teresa Bonner and husband Shane;
great-grandchildren, Aleana Bynum, Eric Bynum, Raheem Bynum, Emerald Bynum, Zachary Stewart, Crystal Stewart, Richard Steele, Jesslynn Schultz, Maddy Wallace, and Cheyenne Bonner;
honorary daughter-in-law, Ida Elizabeth Bynum;
and a host of extended family members.
