Obituary for Irene Togo Canales
Irene Togo Canales was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on February 2, 2022, at the age of 87. She was born to Sam and Alvina Togo on November 17, 1934. After graduating from Fox Tech High School, she received her diploma and her certificate to take her beautician state license test. One summer while she was still attending school, she visited family in Uvalde, Texas where she worked at a Walgreens Drug Store as a fountain girl. While working there, she met her husband, the delivery boy Alfredo Canales. Together, they had two children, Michael and Melissa Kelly. Irene worked as a beautician for the next fourteen years then was a homemaker and caregiver to her family until the end.
Irene was preceded in death by her siblings, Pauline Mata, Selma Trevino, Elvira Trillo, Sam Togo, and Raul Hinojosa.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Alfredo “Al” Jose Canales;
children, Michael Canales (Brenda) and Melissa Kelly;
grandchildren, Michele Dunn (Stephen), Michael Canales II (Eden), and Brandon Kelly;
great-grandchildren, Milla Dunn, Aiden Canales, Ava Canales, and Hank Dunn;
and sister, Yolanda Salazar.
A graveside service for Irene will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at Jeane’s Funeral Service on Sunday, February 6th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Michael Canales II, Brandon Kelly, Steven Dunn, Jessy Trillo, Michael Canales, and Melissa Kelly.
Irene’s family would like to thank Brighton Bridge Hospice and her private caregivers, Brandy Lewis, Sabrina Dunham, Michele Johnson, Page Danelle, Ghevella Williams, Rosita Torres, Ms. Blanca, Annette Layne, Hermina Brazil, and Paige Danielle.
