Obituary for Ilo May Ernst Burns
Funeral services for Ilo May Ernst Burns will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Jeane’s Funeral Service, 100 E. Union St. Leesville, LA with Reverend Dale Poe officiating. Burial will follow in Cypress Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at Jeane’s on Friday, March 5th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Mrs. Burns was born January 27, 1935 in Holton, KS and passed away February 28, 2021 in Alexandria, LA at the age of 86. She lived in Louisiana for most of her life and was a 1953 graduate of Rosepine High School. She was a country girl who enjoyed living a simple life caring for her family and home. Gardening was her passion, and she loved being outdoors birdwatching. She was a hard-working lady who enjoyed listening to gospel music and Lorretta Lynn, crafting, and in her later years, completing crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her husband, John Edgar Burns; parents, Frederick W. Ernst and Nettie Olive Simmons Ernst; and brothers, Mervin Ernst and Frederick Ernst.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Thomas L. Burns and wife Melinda of Goodrich, TX; Lelan E. Burns of LaCamp, LA; and Les R. Burns and wife Shelly of Leesville, LA,
daughter, Connie L. Shira and husband Don of Leesville, LA,
brother, Delbert Ernst and wife Mirinda of DeRidder, LA,
sister, June Rose Bentley of San Diego, CA,
ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of extended family.
Pallbearers will be Tom Burns, Lelan Burns, Don Shira, Les Burns, Brant Chaney, Adrian Grigg, and Raiden Boney. Honorary pallbearer will be Caleb Stewart.
The family of Mrs. Burns extends special appreciation to the staff of Rapides Regional Hospital, Heart of Cenla Hospice, the LSU doctor, and the nursing staff on the sixth floor of Rapides Regional Hospital, and especially ER doctor, Dr. Beth-Ann Baptiste for the wonderful, compassionate care they gave to their mother and to the entire family.
