Obituary for Ida Gwendolyn Peavy

Funeral services for Ida Gwendolyn “Gwen” “Ginny or Big Grandma” Peavy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Oak Forest Baptist Church. The burial will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. The pallbearers will be Joshua Smart, Matthew Brown, Louis, Joseph Peavy, Kenny Coker, Michael Chapman, Adam Lindsey, and Ryan Lafoe. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Gwen was born April 27, 1949, in Ringgold, Louisiana and passed away June 16, 2023, in Leesville, Louisiana at the age of 74. In 1967, she graduated from Pickering High School. During her working career, Gwen drove trucks and charter buses. She also worked for Walmart stores in Georgia and Alabama as a CSM. In the past, she attended Hornbeck Full Gospel church. Gwen loved to sing and cook, and she was a very good cook. She was an ordained minister and went to China on a mission trip. Most of all, she loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members. If you ever came to visit more than once, you were family.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, John Benjamin Peavy & Dorothy Idell Jinks Peavy; brothers, Jimmy Kent Peavy & Johnny Dino Peavy; and sisters, Joan Bonita Peavy & Diane Skinner.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, John Andrew Smart (Angela) of Alabama;

daughter, Dawnrey Dianna Princess Smart of Leesville;

grandchildren, Christopher Allen Troy Haftopulos (Mercedes), Jerimiah James Haftopulos, Jarred Daniel Haftopulos, Savannah Dianna Diaz, Sophia Irene Smart, Heather Fiessler (Shawn), Zachary Irons (Holly), Joshua Smart, Patrick Smart (Anna), and Autumn Brown (Matthew);

great-grandchildren, O’Ceana Irons, Hunter Fiessler, Shalyn Fiessler, Brentley Fiessler, Kimmie Fiessler, Remmington Fiessler, Christian Irons, Noah Irons, Garrison Irons, Liam Smart, Camden Smart, Lily Smart, Tyler Humphries, Ryder Humphries, Maddison Humphries, Graysen Humphries, Nevaeh Irene Henry, Heaven Lee Henry, and Leo De’Mon Henry;

great-great-granddaughter, Isabella Phelps;

brothers, John Derek Peavy and Joseph Devlon Peavy (Mary Jo);

sister, Eena Cantrell (Bill)

sisters-in-law, Beca Peavy and Darlene Vogle;

former husband, Thomas Andrew Smart (Lydia);

and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
