Memorial services and a Christian burial for HUEL LONNIE HAYMON, a long-time resident and retired owner of Slagle Grocery will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, December 23, 2013, at the Old Anacoco Baptist Church with burial following in the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Jeane's Funeral service of Leesville The family will greet friends from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 22, at the church and on Monday, December 23rd from 8:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Huel, a brother, grandfather, father, and a loving husband, passed away at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, Texas on Friday, December 20, 2013, with his family gathered around him in a most touching, loving, departure from this life to his eternal home in Heaven. Upon graduation from high school, Huel moved to Houston, Texas, and worked for Carnation Milk Company. He worked himself up from the bottom and eventually became the Superintendent of the plant and remained there until his retirement. Upon returning home prior to his retirement from Carnation, Huel and Margie purchased the Slagle Grocery in Slagle, Louisiana, and through the years built this little grocery and convenience store into the place to be in Slagle and eventually it became known as the Slagle Mall! Huel loved his God and he was not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Huel had a passion for those less fortunate - the sick. His ministry was just that, visiting those in the hospitals and nursing homes and he never left without saying a prayer to Jesus for those in need. He was an active member and deacon of the Old Anacoco Baptist Church, and even in his heart illness worked tirelessly to see that others came to know the real reason for living-Jesus Christ! Huel loved his farm and country home in Slagle, Louisiana. Until his illness and even this year, he and Margie loved the art of gardening. Huel loved to sit on his porch, ride his tractor, feed his cows, and watch the corn grow tall III In life, in business, and whatever he was doing, his country, agriculture roots ran deep. He truly believed the best way to handle any job was to "plow one row at a time." In addition to his farm, Huel loved the game of baseball. He coached many players to perfection in the game and even built a baseball field in one of his cow pastures so the players would have ample room for practicing prior to the games. Huel was devoted to and loved his family very much. He taught them the rules of life and how to treat others as they would want to be treated. Having a special needs son, Huel never once wavered from taking care of each and every one of Bubba's needs. Huel was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Etta Cryer Haymon Huel is survived by his spouse of 55 years, Marjorie Kutach Haymon, four children: David (Bubba) Haymon of Slagle, Tammy Schamerhorn, and her husband Rodney of Slagle, Bonnie Bolton of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Sandra Cosio, and her husband.
