Obituary for Gwendolyn Alice Atkins Miller Willis
Gwendolyn Alice Atkins Miller Willis was born on March 25, 1934, in Port Arthur, TX. She gained her angel wings on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at the age of 85. Gwen worked at the laundry at Fort Polk and was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Evans for many years. She enjoyed doing needle work with plastic canvas, collecting wind chimes and angels, and spending time with family and friends.
Gwen is survived by three daughters, Lana Thompson and husband Tommy of Ashland, KY; Sharon Simmons of Evans; and Dorothy Gail Murray and husband A.L. of Angleton, TX,
three sons, Willie “Billy” Miller Jr. and wife Linda of Columbus, OH; Ronnie Miller of Evans, LA; and Frank Miller of Evans, LA,
and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
Gwen was preceded in death by two husbands, Willie Miller and Noble Willis; parents, Ira and Dorothy Atkins; son, Dale Miller; sisters, Patsy and Verna; grandson, Mike Thompson; and son-in-law, Ted Simmons.
A visitation time will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19th at Galilee Baptist Church in Evans and will continue until the time of service on Saturday, July 20th at 10:00 a.m. Buddy Airhart and Wade Carroll will be officiating. Interment will follow in Evans Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Simmons, Keith Thompson, Chris Thompson, Stewart Simmons, Booger Thompson, Heath Smith, and Josh Onellion.
Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Thompson, Travis Thompson, Brennen Thompson, Brennan Smith, Jackson Smith, Cameron Thompson, Cayden Thompson, and J.T. Onellion.
