Obituary for Gerald Blackwell

Funeral services for Gerald Roger Blackwell will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, 11:00AM at Cooper Baptist Church, 853 Cooper Church Rd., Leesville, LA 71446 with Rev. Edgar Evans, Rev. Wayne Chance, and Rev. Greg Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in Cooper Cemetery under the direction of Jeanes"s Funeral Service. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016, from 4:00 " 9:00PM at Cooper Baptist Church. Gerald Roger Blackwell was born on July 18, 1932, to Artie and Mary Blackwell in Hutton, LA. He passed away on April 26, 2016, at the age of 83, in Leesville, LA. Mr. Blackwell was a veteran of the United States Army serving his country in the Korean Conflict. He was the former owner of Blackwell"s Texaco/ Mobile Gas Station and a retired civil service worker at Ft. Polk, LA. He was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at Cooper Baptist church where he also served as a deacon for 48 years. Mr. Blackwell was a member of the Gideons International of Leesville and was faithful to visit nursing homes, hospitals, and minister to families at funerals. He loved to farm and enjoyed raising his cows. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Artie and Mary Blackwell, 2 brothers, and 1 sister. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ms. Irma Ruth Blackwell of Leesville, LA. Sons: Arnold Blackwell of Leesville, LA, Roger and Anita Blackwell of Pickering, LA, David and Sandy Blackwell of Anacoco, LA, Roy Blackwell of Pickering, LA, Rodney and Tammy Blackwell of Leesville, LA and Robert and Brandie Blackwell of Pickering, LA Grandchildren: Randy and Amanda, Daniel, Randel, Kaylee and Alex, Grant, Nathan, Hannah, and Emily Great-Grandchildren: Cameron, Zane, Kealeigh, and Cheyenne Sisters-in-law: Kitty Faye Blackwell of Anacoco, LA, and Andrea Blackwell of Houston, TX Host of nieces and nephews.
