Obituary for Evelyn Jeannette Lucius
A graveside service for Evelyn Jeannette Lucius will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2023, in Florien Cemetery with Reverends Bruce Garner and J.P. Handy officiating under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. The pallbearers will be Jason Lucius, Samuel Lucius Sidney “Trey” Lucius III, Robbie Santana Jr., Rodney Jordan, and Brad Williams. The honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Trepanier, Michael Richardson, Jasper Maxie, Kenny Richardson, and Joe Salter.
A visitation will be held at Jeane’s Funeral Service in Leesville, LA on Saturday, December 16th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Jeannette was born July 19, 1944, and passed away December 8, 2023, at the age of 79. She began her 32-year teaching career in Leesville but soon moved to Florien Elementary where she taught second grade and then traveled from Florien to Negreet teaching the gifted and talented class. During this time, she worked tirelessly to earn her Master’s Plus 30 degree in Education. After retiring from the school system, Jeannette worked at Walmart in Many for over 10 years. Jeannette liked to make silly jokes that kept her family laughing and was a fantastic cook. She would often create her own recipes, but her food was always delicious. Growing roses brought her joy, and she especially loved watching the birds gather at her bird feeder. When she was in bed fighting cancer watching the birds outside her window lifted her spirits. Jeannette was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her son, Sidney Young Lucius Jr. and parents, Elbert Gass & Elma Lee Walker Gass.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years, 2 months, and 4 days, Sidney Young Lucius Sr.;
sons, Jason Emory Lucius of Florien, LA and Samuel Wilson Lucius and wife Joyce Weissbohn of Anacoco, LA;
daughter, Joan Claire Trepanier and husband Wayne of Fort Riley, KS;
grandchildren, Ethan Perkins and Sidney “Trey” Lucius III;
brother, Thomas Gass Sr. of Pasadena, TX;
and sister-in-law, Claire Thompson of Florien, LA.
