Obituary for Ethel Darlene Boles
Ms. Ethel Darlene Boles, age 66, a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones at Rapides Regional Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. A visitation for the family and friends of Darlene will be held at the church on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in the Pine Island Cemetery under the direction of Jeane's Funeral Service.
Darlene was born in Leesville to Johnny and Mavis Ford Wells and was raised as the middle sibling of seven children in Hutton, LA. She graduated from Simpson High School in 1970 and held various jobs until she became a home health aide and then secretary for Byrd Home Health in the early 1980’s. Darlene left the health care industry and began working for the Vernon Parish school system at South Polk Elementary in 1998 where she immediately fell in love with all her “babies”. After several years, she transferred to Simpson High School to be closer to her home and family. She remained at SHS until she retired in 2016. During her time at Simpson, Darlene touched the lives of many students and bonded with both the staff and students alike; she was affectionately referred to as “Grandmother” by many.
Darlene is survived by her daughter Karen Bennett Hall and fiancé Shane Cole of Simpson, her granddaughters Madison and Morgan Hall also of Simpson, siblings Ricky Wells of Kurthwood, LA; Randy Wells and wife Judy of Pickering; LaDale Wells and wife Debbie of Flatwoods and one sister Elaine Ogletree and husband Bill of Hutton, LA. She also left behind her nephew Lynn Bennett and beloved nieces Tammy Nichols, Sharon Richardson, Spanky Ford and Kayla Wells, as well as her honorary grandchildren Austin and Julie Thompson, Hayley and Grayson Temple, Kaeden Bennett and Camryn Wanjura.
Preceding Darlene in death are her daughter Kimberly Bennett, parents Johnnie and Mavis Wells, siblings Tommy Ford and Gloria Jean Nichols and, most recently, her cherished niece Vanessa Wells. The family would like to give thanks to the MICU, 4 South and 3 South staff members at Rapides Regional Medical Center for the excellent care they took of Darlene over the past several weeks. Also, a special thank you to Tully and Jody Burns and the members of Simpson Assembly of God for their special presence and assistance with the memorial service.
